Sayonara・・・Mr.Barton
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Barton,
former headmaster at NIS from 1991-2007, who died yesterday in Ho Chi Min,
Vietnam, with wife Marjon at his side. For those of you who have been here
for more than five years, and knew Mr. Barton, also know that while he was
dedicated to the NIS community, he was also a very reserved man who chose to
keep his health issues private. He never wanted any focus to be on him, but
rather, always on the students. He will be sadly missed by family, friends,
and former students around the globe.
Mr. Barton had a long career in international schools, including the
American School of Tangier (1975-1982), the Rabat American School
(1982-1989), International School of Kuala Lumpur (1989-1991), NIS
(1991-2007), and lastly, Saigon South International School (2007-2012).
His time at NIS was by far the longest, however. Over his 16-year tenure, he
oversaw the growth of NIS from a small school with improvement needed in
many areas to a school with a thriving, vibrant community of international
learners with a new mission and new facilities to guide our way for many
years to come.
A small, private ceremony will be held this morning in Vietnam. More news
will follow as to how and when we will appropriately recognize Mr. Barton
and his accomplishments here at NIS.
Sayonara Mr. Barton. We will miss you. Your impact on this small community
in Nakashidami will forever be appreciated, and your spirit lives on in the
hearts and dreams of students around the world.
我が家の子どもたちがお世話になりました。
バートン校長、あなたのことは忘れません。
